Nathaniel (Nathan) Armstrong, brother of W.T.E. Armstrong, was born in 1837 and was seven years of age when he came to what is now Craighead County. Upon reaching manhood, he married Martha (Mattie) Maloney, a native of Craighead County. He settled on a farm in the Goobertown community. He later moved to Maumelle Prairie, south of Lake City where he continued to engage in farming. Nathan and Mattie Armstrong were parents of several children who died young. One daughter, Mary Agnes, born 28 December 1868, first wed Judas Stotts who died early in the marriage. They were parents of one son, Nathan Stotts who has born in 1891 and died in 1912. Mary Agnes later married Charles Claunch, who for many years operated the Claunch Hotel on Main Street in Jonesboro.
Nathan Armstrong died in 1884 and Mattie, his wife, died in 1879. Both are interred at the Bowman Cemetery, west of Lake City. Mary Agnes (Armstrong) Claunch died 5 January 1931 and is buried in the City Cemetery in Jonesboro.
